How To Help Our Kupuna

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our island banded together to find creative ways to help our kupuna while maintaining all safety precautions. If you are interested in volunteering, check out these non-profit programs and donations:

Deliver Basic Needs

Help Is On The Way is a Hawaii nonprofit corporation that was formed in March of 2020. Their goal is to provide deliveries to those who should stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are always accepting volunteer drivers that can drop off groceries, medicine, or other basic needs to our kupuna.

Help Prepare Meals

Lanakila Pacific offers one of the oldest standing volunteer programs on the island. They have volunteer opportunities as both a home delivery driver and a meal packer. The typical meal packaging shift takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete and is performed at their main facility on Bachelot Street.

Become a Penpal

Coronavirus Hawaii is asking volunteers to write handwritten letters to our kupuna. Although Facetime and Zoom calls became commonplace for many, our kupunas’ limited familiarity with technology may prevent them from virtually connecting. Handwritten letters were the principle means of communication when they were young, and continue to represent a cherished medium for them.

Become a Caregiver

With nearly 60,000 seniors living in Hawaii, a job at Kupuna Care Hawaii (link to job application) is extremely rewarding because you can truly impact each others’ lives. Many of our caregivers find it rewarding to share their skills or hobbies such as reading, puzzles, gardening, and many more.
