10-Digit Dialing Starts in October 2021

Starting on October 24, 2021, you'll need to dial "808" with all outgoing phone numbers. All calls - including those on the same island - must dial 10 digits or the phone call will not go through.

WHY THIS CHANGE?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) switched to 10-digit outgoing phone calls so that emergency calls made to the National Suicide Prevention Center and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline can be made by simply calling "988". Funnily enough, many local phone numbers start with "988", so it was necessary to make the change.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Please call Hawaiian Telcom for additional questions. Complications may arise due to automated dialing systems such as burglar alarm monitors, speed dialers, mobile phone contacts, and fax equipments.
